High Risk; Little Concern

Study Shows High-risk Adults are Unaware of the Need for Eye Exams

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, there is an alarming lack of concern among Americans aged 50 and older regarding preventive eyecare.

The report states that approximately 45 percent of adults aged 50 years and older have never had a dilated eye exam. Despite the increased risk of vision problems as for those over 50, many of these adults state that they have “no reason to go” to an eyecare professional.

Considering the fact that one in three adults over 40 has a vision problem, this lack of concern for preventive eyecare is a large and growing problem. Those over 40 are at risk of developing numerous sight-threatening vision problems including cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and presbyopia.

With regular eye exams, your eyecare professional can detect problems early and prescribe proper treatments to delay or prevent vision loss. Schedule an eye exam today to ensure healthy vision for tomorrow.
