Fish Your Way Out of Vision Loss

Study shows eating fish can lower risk of developing age-related macular degeneration

It’s been drilled in our heads that foods like fish, which are filled with omega-3 fatty acids, are important when trying to lose weight or keeping the heart healthy. But what you might not have heard is that these foods can also help prevent eye disease!

According to a study published in the May issue of Archives of Ophthalmology, eating fish can decrease the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by as much as forty percent!

AMD affects about six million Americans and is the leading cause of vision loss among older Americans. There are two types of AMD, wet and dry. Wet AMD is more closely linked with sudden serious vision loss, while dry AMD results in a more gradual loss of vision.

Make the vision health of you and your family a priority. And keep fish in mind the next time you’re making your grocery list! Your eyes and the rest of your body will thank you.
